Corpus Christi Church

Evansville, IN

In 1955 Bishop Henry Grimmelsman wanted a new parish built west of Evansville. Fr. James O'Connor was assigned as first pastor of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Under his leadership a group of dedicated people prayed, planned and worked together to establish the new parish. The church and school, the first of many buildings, were completed in 1957. Since their dedication, several additions have been made to the property: the O'Connor Center, parish offices, a social room, an activities building and an expanded school and cafetorium, which has since added music and art rooms, a computer room, preschool and kindergarten rooms and new library and school offices.

The parish family is grateful for the priests that have been assigned to Corpus Christi as spiritual leaders as well as for the parishioners who have accepted Jesus' call to be good stewards. As part of their faith journey, parishioners have given their time, talent and treasures to become the "Body of Christ." This commitment has brought new parish membership as well as spiritual growth. Outreach programs have been established to senior neighbors at Westpark Rehabilitation Center and at Solarbron Terrace. Many are touched through the Men's Club, Women's Club, Booster Club, Nursing Program, St. Vincent de Paul, CFM, the youth group, scouting, the Senior Group, Christ Renews His Parish, Vacation Bible School and many more programs.

In its first 50 years, Corpus Christi has answered the call of Christ to be his body and looks forward to many years of service and friendship to all the west side family.
